7th Annual Parker Pike Non-Profit Marketing Scholarship

Background

parker pike Parker Pike ScholarshipIn 2005 the San Diego American Marketing Association Board of Directors decided to invest in future nonprofit marketing leaders by awarding a $1000 scholarship to a San Diego County college student who has demonstrated exemplary application of business and marketing practices to help a local, regional or national nonprofit that is a legally recognized, 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization. The scholarship will be presented at the 14th Annual Cause Conference, March 21, 2012.
Past winners have set up a fundraising programs for low income high schools, written marketing plans for nonprofits, aided ‘start-up’ organizations, served as volunteer communications managers, and one USD student raised thousands of dollars while in intensive care at a local hospital.

The scholarship is named for Parker Pike; a teacher, mentor and a leading business and marketing expert. Parker is a co-founder of the Cause Conference and has invested countless hours in support of the San Diego AMA as a Board Member and as the President. His innovative marketing partnerships and ideas have been used by hundreds companies and nonprofits to discover more effective ways to generate community awareness and raise funds.

Who is eligible?

The scholarship is open to any San Diego County college student (community college, university, extension or graduate student) who has demonstrated exemplary application of business and marketing practice to help a nonprofit organization advance their mission, whether they are a paid staff member or volunteer.

Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Leadership and creativity in the application of marketing strategies that achieve measurable success.
  • Resourcefulness in strengthening an existing marketing program or plan.
  • Problem solving skills by helping a nonprofit(s) meet a current need or future opportunity.
  • Developing partnerships that leverage existing or newly established resources.
