Karl Strauss Brewing Company was San Diego’s first craft beer maker, launching in 1989 long before San Diego became one of the nation’s craft brewing meccas. The company now operates ten brewpubs in addition to its headquarters tasting room and distributes its brews throughout Southern California and beyond.
Mark Weslar, Vice President of Marketing at Karl Strauss, joined us in the studio to tell us if it’s as much fun to market beer as it is to drink it. He shared some of the challenges and joys of championing a brand in this fun and competitive industry and candidly told us about the differences between working with mass-market and craft brews.
