Vice President of Marketing and Communications

The Vice President (VP) of Marketing and Communications works to inspire people to connect with the mission of San Diego Humane Society through strategic communications planning and implementation. This role is responsible for developing and executing the short- and long-range plans for strengthening San Diego Humane Society’s communications, marketing, media relations and branding strategies in collaboration with the Philanthropy team. Development of these plans includes responsibility for effective management of digital and printed communications vehicles. This is a highly visible position reporting to the Senior Vice President & Chief Philanthropy Officer, while also working closely with staff, volunteers, donors, the media and other key internal and external stakeholders. This position works collaboratively with the communications team in defining goals and implementing strategies and tactics related to marketing communications and branding initiatives.


·         Master’s degree in marketing, communications or other relevant field preferred, bachelor’s degree required.

·         Minimum of 10 years of direct hands-on, progressively responsible experience in marketing, media relations and communications

·         Minimum of 5 years experience in a management role leading communications or marketing efforts and working with executive-level leadership in organizations similar in size and complexity to SDHS required.

·         Experience with nonprofit sector a plus.
